Hi everybody,
I can't believe we're truly into fall now. I love October (well, the fall in general!) and all of the changes that it brings. The leaves, Thanksgiving and the chilly outside and the warm inside is just so comforting. I really wanted to talk today about being strong. I'm not talking about growing some sick muscles and powerlifting. I'm talking about being strong and courageous through really difficult times. I just finished this book today called Roadside Assistance by Amy Clipston and it was a really great book. It was funny because I'd gone to the library, intending to pick up some books that I'd put on hold and I found this one when I was browsing. It sounded good so I took it home, but it was only when I really got into it that I realized it was about God. Kinda funny, eh?
Anyways, in this book, the main character's mother dies and she loses just about everything. One of the verses they talk about in this book is Deuteronomy 31:6, which says "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." NIV. It's so true but it's so often forgotten. I don't need to be afraid of the things that scare me because God will carry me through. He never leaves me for second, it's me who forgets that He's there.
You know that saying, If life gives you lemons, make lemonade? Really famous and used by people all of the time. I think it's about being optimistic, and being optimistic helps us to be strong when things don't go the way we wanted them to. You can find that optimism in God. No one ever said that we have to be strong on our own. Yeah, you may feel alone because that girl dumped you like someone throwing their lunch into the trashcan or because your friends aren't talking to you right now, but you don't have to carry all of that weight by yourself. Yes, it's important to be strong, but it's important to be broken too. Being strong means nothing if you're not being strong with God. So those really difficult things you're dealing with now don't need to just be solved by you. There's the best friend ever just waiting to hear you talk and cry and not hold it all together.
Being strong isn't just about holding everything in or plastering a smile on your face. It's about knowing you're upset and broken inside and pushing through.
One of my favourite sayings ever:
If God brought you to it, He'll bring you through it.
Happy Sunday everyone!
Hi!
ReplyDeleteGreat post :D looks allot longer than it is :P It's amazing what God does when we aren't expecting isn't it? And amazing what more he does when we ask :D We can absolutely lean on God, but I will also add that we can lean on each other and help each other out. God knows all, but sometimes we tune him out, or aren't sure what he is saying or just feel like he has abandoned you. When this sort of thing happens, turn to one who is having a healthy relationship with God that they may help guide you. My opinion. Great job Beckster.
